Our History
1954
Deutsche Schule: Licensed as a Kindergarten by Lebanese authorities.
1955
Licensed as an Elementary School by the Lebanese Authorities
1961
Licensed as a Secondary School by the Lebanese Authorities
1966
Start the Construction of the Naameh Campus
1967
Accredited as Begegnungschule by the German Authorities
1977
Naameh Campus was deserted due to Lebanese Civil War
1985
Final Abitur exams at DISB were disrupted after most German teachers left Beirut due to kidnappings.
1989
The Beirut campus was destroyed during the Lebanese-Syrian war; classes continued up to Grade 8.
1990
Mr. Omar Salloum appointed first national director; school accredited as a V-Schule.
1998
First German Diploma (DSD I & II) and Lebanese Baccalaureate exams held at DISB
2005
Accredited as an IB World School by the IBO, authorized to offer the Diploma Programme
2007
The first IB Diploma Programme (DP) exams were successfully conducted at the school
2009
Accredited as a GIB School by the IBO and German authorities and authorized to offer the IB DP in German.
2011
DISB enrolled 1,090 students, offering the Lebanese Baccalaureate, IB, GIB, and SprachDiplom
2013
High-tech teaching expanded at the Beirut Campus, including interactive whiteboards across all classes.
2014
Mr. Omar Salloum awarded the German Federal "Order of Merit" by President Joachim Gauck.
2015
Renamed DISB, the school refabricated classrooms, and earned the "Excellent German School Abroad" title
2016
Awarded a certificate in the UNESCO for international cooperation and quality education
2020
Transferred to remote online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure continuity of learning.
2023
The High-Tech Teaching and Learning approach for Grade 6, with each student using a laptop
